The primary program is designed to be a three year program composed of children ages three to six years. In this setting the children naturally respect each other’s work and personal space. They take an active role in maintaining their environment, which is divided into four main areas: practical life, sensorial, language and mathematics. The basic academic curriculum is enriched by science, art, music, gardening, and movement experiences. Each activity responds to the children’s fundamental need for movement, independence and language. Students are immersed in Spanish as a second language throughout the day.
In order for your child to truly gain all the benefits from his/her Montessori experience, it is necessary for your child to stay three years in a Children’s House classroom. Your child’s first year in the classroom is one of exploration and adaptation where he/she will receive a considerable number of one-on-one lessons supporting concentration, order, self-discipline and social interaction. During your child’s second year of Montessori education, we will encourage your child to explore his/her environment much more independently. Your child has more confidence than the first year and is usually able to work for longer periods of time and more independently. Then, during the third and most important year for your child, all of the experiences are synthesized. Your child solidifies and really understands all the knowledge he or she has been absorbing in the two previous years. Your child becomes the example for the other children to follow.
